Am 20. April 1992 fand im Londoner Wembley-Stadion einer der größten Rockevents der Musikgeschichte statt. Queen nahmen mit zahlreichen namhaften Gästen und einer spektakulären Show Abschied von ihrem an Aids verstorbenen Sänger Freddie Mercury.
The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert enthält den zweiten, 105-minütigen Teil der Veranstaltung, in dem die verbliebenen Queen-Mitglieder Brian May, John Deacon und Roger Taylor sich bei einem Best-Of-Programm ihrer zahllosen Hits von Musikern unterschiedlichster Couleur begleiten ließen. Herausragend sind die Auftritte mit The-Who-Sänger Roger Daltrey und Black-Sabbath-Gitarrist Tony Iommi ("I Want It All"), Led-Zeppelin-Legende Robert Plant ("Crazy Little Thing Called Love"), Def-Leppard-Frontmann Joe Elliott und Guns-N'Roses-Gitarrist Slash ("Tie Your Mother Down"), Metallica-Shouter James Hetfield und Tony Iommi ("Stone Cold Crazy") und Lisa Stansfield ("I Want To Break Free"), die allesamt sehr rockig ausgefallen sind. Aber auch die ruhigeren Momente mit u.a. Paul Young ("Radio Ga Ga"), David Bowie und Eurythmics-Sängerin Annie Lennox ("Under Pressure"), Elton John ("Bohemian Rhapsody", "The Show Must Go On") und ganz besonders George Michael ("'39", "These Are The Days Of Our Life", "Somebody To Love") können absolut überzeugen. Die bewegendsten Momente liefert allerdings Brian May mit seinem solo vorgetragenen, ergreifenden Abschiedssong "Too Much Love Will Kill You".
