Die Tour wurde im Mai 1983 zur Unterstützung von David Bowies Album Let's Dance ins Leben gerufen. Sie wurde am 18. Mai 1983 im Vorst Forest Nationaal in Brüssel eröffnet und endete am 8. Dezember 1983 im Hong Kong Coliseum. Die Bowie-Band hat in diesem Zeiraum 15 Länder besucht, 96 Gigs gespielt und über 2, 6 Millionen Tickets verkauft.
Die Tour erhielt überwiegend positive Kritiken von der Presse. Es war zu dieser Zeit seine längste, größte und erfolgreichste Konzerttournee, obwohl sie seitdem durch nachfolgende Bowie-Touren in Länge, Besucherzahl und Bruttoeinnahmen übertroffen wurde. Die Band war mit namhaften Musikern wie Earl Slick, Carlos Alomar oder Tony Thomson besetzt.
